Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is Wales’s most popular and globally recognised cultural institution, at the heart of the Welsh nation. We encompass seven major museums across Wales and hold over five million items covering geology, botany, zoology, social history, archaeology, industrial heritage and art – in short, the science, history and culture of Wales and beyond.

Within the Department of Natural Sciences we hold the largest and most comprehensive collection of Welsh geology, zoology and botany specimens in the world. These provide a unique record of the natural history of Wales charting evolutionary and environmental change over 700 million years. The Department also holds a number of significant historical archives which relate to the history of science.
